Denise Praill joined Canuck Place in 2013 as chief development officer and was appointed chief executive officer in April 2022. She brings more than 20 years of experience and success as a senior executive in the philanthropic, non-profit, and private sectors in BC.
Denise has helped build a diverse and talented team that brought a relationship-based fundraising model to Canuck Place — doubling annual revenues to more than $18m. She is a key member of the senior leadership team, providing strategic vision and direction to the organization.
She holds a Certified Fund Raising Executive designation and is a long-standing member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Working in partnership with families, volunteers, clinical and fundraising staff, the communications and events team engages the community of donors and builds awareness of the positive impact of Canuck Place programs on children with life-threatening illnesses and BC families.
Previously, Debbie was the executive director of the independent not-for-profit Canucks for Kids Fund, and led the largest NHL team charity from 2005 to 2010, generating grants of over $14.3m to BC charities serving children.
Debbie completed her degree in journalism from Ryerson Polytechnical University after graduating from the University of British Columbia with a degree in human kinetics.

Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is the pediatric palliative care provider in British Columbia and the Yukon. Over 800 children with life-threatening illnesses and families from five provincial health regions receive Canuck Place in-patient and community care (in home/in hospital). Canuck Place operates 13 patient beds and 8 family suites through two hospices in Vancouver and Abbotsford. Services include medical respite and family support; pain and symptom management; provincial 24-hour clinical care line; music and recreation therapy; education and art; grief, loss, and bereavement counselling; as well as end-of-life care. With the support of donors, a talented team, and volunteers, Canuck Place cares for children with short lives and the families who love them.

In her four years at Canuck Place, she has mentored and leveraged the talent of the staff and managers. In 2019, she led her team in the growth and recruitment to reach over 400 volunteers with an incredible 25,000 hours of service.
