As Canada’s only national non-profit health care and insurance organization, GreenShield is built on a simple but powerful belief: health care is a right, not a privilege. This guides the organization as it scales its business and its impact and what makes its Canadian HR Reporter Readers’ Choice 2026 Award recognition particularly meaningful.
That scale of GreenShield’s growth tells a broader story, where purpose and performance scale together. GreenShield reached $6 billion in gross revenue in 2025, nearly 2.5 times its size since 2018. But what sets the company apart is how growth advances GreenShield’s mission of Better Health for All.
As a non-profit, GreenShield reinvests its excess earnings into solutions that improve access and advance health equity. As the organization grows, so does its ability to deliver measurable impact for Canadians, creating a self-sustaining model where growth fuels impact and impact strengthens growth. By the end of 2025, GreenShield reinvested $75 million to support the health and well-being of more than one million Canadians.
Central to this approach is GreenShield’s integrated payer-provider model – the first of its kind in Canada. By bringing coverage and care together, GreenShield offers insurance, administers benefits, and pays claims as a payer, while delivering health services including mental health, pharmacy, telemedicine, and chronic disease management as a provider. Integrating both sides of the equation removes administrative barriers that make it difficult for Canadians to navigate benefits and access care.
For HR leaders, GreenShield addresses one of the most persistent challenges in employee benefits: fragmentation. Benefits, mental health support, pharmacy services, and navigation tools have traditionally existed in silos, creating confusion for employees and administrative headaches for HR teams. GreenShield addresses this through GreenShield+™, Canada's first health care and insurance digital ecosystem that improves access, simplifies administration, and supports better health outcomes.
GreenShield’s recent Health Outcomes Report highlights the impact of its integrated mental health services:
Members could connect with a therapist in 13 hours
96 per cent of members stayed with their first-matched therapist
Members who completed their first session within seven days showed 25 per cent greater clinical improvement
Every $1 invested in integrated mental health care returned $1.50 through lower mental health claims
Purpose-driven innovation has guided GreenShield from the beginning and shapes GreenShield’s evolution. In 2025, GreenShield introduced new capabilities within GreenShield+™ to respond to evolving health needs. These enhancements integrate coverage, navigation, and personalized support into a seamless experience, including the introduction of GreenShield’s Hormonal Health program, combining clinical expertise with tailored support across women’s life stages.
Looking ahead, GreenShield aims to mobilize $200 million in social impact investments and improve the health of three million more Canadians between 2025 and 2030. By embedding purpose into its core operations and working across public, private, and non-profit sectors, GreenShield is helping drive measurable, system-level change in how care is delivered in Canada. For HR leaders, that means partnering with an organization whose success is directly tied to the health outcomes of people, in pursuit of Better Health for All.
